Abstract. The article substantiates the need for the development of a rational approach to teaching a foreign language to students from nonlinguistic higher education establishment. Particular attention is paid to the general scientific, didactic, methodological principles of this approach, to the development of methods of teaching a foreign language, taking into account the principle of rationalization. The organization of teaching a foreign language, suggested by the authors, contributes to the achievement of a high level of a foreign language professional-communicative competence.
