Abstract. The study aims to theoretically substantiate the use of virtual reality in the process of developing social skills in children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Based on an analysis of scientific literature, the article describes the main features of social development in children with ASD and examines methods for developing social skills, particularly those based on applied behavior analysis (ABA). Special attention is paid to the problem of the limited effectiveness of these traditional methods, which is associated with difficulties in transferring acquired skills to real-life situations. The scientific novelty of the research lies in substantiating the possibility and necessity of using virtual reality for forming social skills by creating a safe, controlled, and realistic learning environment. The study establishes that the application of virtual reality allows for modeling diverse social situations, increasing children’s engagement and motivation, and contributing to a more successful transfer of acquired skills to real social environments.
