Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of the status of aspectuality category in the English language. This category can be grammatical (simple and continuous aspect forms), lexical-grammatical (tense expressions characterizing the character of action passing in time) and also pragmatical that is focused on the position, "point of view" of the observer with respect to the situation described by him. In this respect the category of aspectuality is similar to the category of modality which is the attitude of a speaking person to the contents of the statement.
