Abstract.
In the article the problems of the legal regulation of regional languages functioning in the Russian Federation are tackled by the example of the Tatarstan Republic, and also some of the basic trends of European language policy are presented with the purpose of finding the ways of the rational use of the positive experience of language development for the optimization of language processes in multi-national Russia.
