Abstract. The author considers the questions of the expressiveness of ethnic nicknames - words-pragmemes semantics of which has the element of meaning connected with the expression of estimating relation of one ethnic group to the other and tackles the problems of the change of the connotations and social context of nicknames and also the diapason of estimation connected with the conditions of communication.
