Abstract.
The author considers the meaning of balance between similar and different based on human thinking ability to identify maximally different elements as one of the semantic variants of comparison category within the limits of the functional-semantic approach to the Russian language description, singles out the differentiating features of this meaning: ambivalence, uncertainty, subjectivity, and characterizes the comparative structure of the constructions with the meaning of balance between similar and different.
