Abstract.
The author conducts the critical analysis of the term speech error that is widely used in modern linguistics and causes some doubts about the appropriateness of its traditional use in the practice of the Russian language teaching, as well as presents the comment on the most adequate typology of errors made in native speakers' oral and written speech.
