Abstract.
The author considers the image of Pantaloon in stories by G. K. Chesterton “The Flying Stars” and “Pond the Pantalone”, compares it with the Italian variations of famous “dell'arte” character, reveals the reasons of Pantaloon’s specific characteristics actualization in the analyzed works, and for the first time puts forward the hypothesis about the reason of G. K. Chesterton reference to the aesthetics of commedia dell'arte, expanding the possibilities of interpreting the works of this writer.
