Abstract.
The authors consider the semantic field as one of the ways of language representation of the concept, analyze the features of concepts lexical representation by the example of basic material concepts “food” and “drink” in the English and Russian linguistic cultures, discuss the concepts data because they constitute the first, fundamental, physiological level of human needs, as the research material uses the English and Russian lexicographical sources, and basing on the presented sources reveal the core and periphery of the concepts under consideration.
