Abstract.
The article is devoted to the little-studied in Germanic studies question of the formation of duplicate variants of words by changing the morphological structure or the sound image of existing lexical units for obtaining semantic and stylistic parallels with extended semantic connotation. The correlation of word formation with the tendency to linguistic economy on a phonetic and morphological level, conditioned by linguistic and extra-linguistic factors, is revealed as a result of the analysis.
