COLLECTION OF SHORT STORIES “THE JASPER CANE” BY HENRI DE REGNIER: ESCAPE FROM REALITY

Abstract.
The article pays particular attention to the collection of short stories “The Jasper Cane” (1897) by the French writer Henri de Regnier (1864-1936). The paper considers the representation of writer’s attitude at the turn of the century in the motives and images of short stories in the collection. Combining the symbolist emotional and mystical conception of a thing and the Parnassian picturesqueness of the material world, referring to the mythological images, Rainier reflects on the transition time, dissonance between a man and nature, and recalls the triumph of eternal values.
