Abstract. The paper is dedicated to the qualification requirements imposed on the graduates of the faculties of translation. The author presents a brief survey of certification exams being in action abroad, analyzes the format of exams and assessment criteria, suggesting their implementation under the training of translators in the institutions of higher education.
