Abstract.
Within the framework of this article the author makes an attempt to describe various approaches to identification of the essence of a metaphor, presents a description of the modern state of the subject matter within the framework of cognitive linguistics. Under investigation are the nominations-phytonyms of the modern German language. The author makes a cognitive-onomasiological analysis of phytonyms, identifies various types of metaphors and carries out their classification.
