IMPLICATIONS OF STRUCTURAL PECULIARITIES OF A RAGTIME MELODY IN THE NOVEL BY E. L. DOCTOROW “RAGTIME”

Abstract.
The article is devoted to investigating the interrelations of music and literature by the example of the novel by the American writer E. L. Doctorow “Ragtime”. The paper examines the artistic and stylistic techniques for implementing in a literary text the basic structural and substantial characteristics of ragtime as a musical genre of Afro-American art. In particular, the author provides and analyzes the examples of conversion of cumulative principle, principle of opposite motives as a modification of response technique, and also reveals the nature of rhythm simulation and syncopation at the level of artistic narration.
