Abstract.
Vertical manifestation of space, along with the horizontal, also plays an important role in its perception by a human being. Local prefixes represent a major set of information of human knowledge about the reality. In this connection, the article examines both the typical and the occasional cases of realization of the investigated units in the German literary texts. The authors pay special attention to the detailed analysis of local prefixes describing the movement of a subject on a vertical plane.
