Abstract.
The article reveals the specifics of the functioning of lexemes included as models in the structure of similes, which, in their turn, referentially correlate with the phenomenon of laugh in literary text. Special attention is paid to the linguo-semantic analysis of comparative constructions and to investigating the factor of context directly participating in the formation of artistic image. The paper presents and examines the most striking examples of similes from the modern English prose.
