Abstract. The article characterizes lexico-semantic group of nouns with the secondary metaphorical meaning of quantity in the Russian and English languages from the viewpoint of connotational markedness. Relying on the analysis the author identified that the investigated group comes out as heterogeneous: some of the investigated lexemes are neutral, and others are connotationally marked. Conducted analysis of the connotationally marked nouns testifies that in both languages the investigated group refers to the category of colloquial vocabulary, but in Russian it is more connotational and is lowered in the functional aspect.
