Abstract.
The article is devoted to investigating the influence of such literary trend as Gothic on the creative work of an English writer-romanticist Thomas De Quincey. The paper provides an analysis of the novel by Thomas De Quincey “The Avenger”. The author draws parallels between “The Avenger” and other works of the writer manifesting themselves in the likeness of personages, subjects, descriptions. The special attention is paid to studying gothic images in the different works of the writer. “The Avenger” is considered as an example of a Gothic novel; the author focuses on its place in the line of other, more famous De Quincey’s works.
