Abstract. The article deals with such aspects of discourse analysis of communicative situation as the functionality and the related meanings of statements, mainly illocutionary and perlocutionary. The identification of the data meanings is made in terms of contextual conditions of communicative situations, P. Grice's cooperative principles and theory of speech acts. The author presents the analysis of specific communication situations which shows how the understanding of the intentions of the speaker is gained and how the knowledge of the physical and social world reflects the mutual relations in the surrounding society.
