ON THE ISSUE OF SYNONYMY BETWEEN ABBREVIATIONS AND THEIR FULL FORMS (BY THE MATERIAL OF THE MODERN GERMAN LANGUAGE)

Abstract.
In the article the author follows the argument repeatedly postulated in linguistics but not verified empirically so far about synonymy between abbreviations and their full forms. The replacement of full forms by abbreviations in syntactic contexts under the influence of communicative parameters is examined. The author comes to the conclusion that semantic relation between abbreviation and its full form in speech represents continuum between absolute and incomplete synonymy.
