Abstract.
The article examines the structural and semantic peculiarities of the somatic phraseological units of the Kumyk and Russian languages. In the Kumyk language the majority of the free words combinations, acquiring figurative meaning, fall into the new lexico-semantic category - phraseological units. According to the correlation of the phraseological units with the word combinations they can be divided into the two groups: phraseological units which have prototypes - word combinations and phraseological units formed on the basis of the analogy with the other word combinations without visible prototypes - word combinations.
