COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF LEXIS WITH NO DIRECT EQUIVALENTS IN OTHER LANGUAGES (BY THE MATERIAL OF SOPHIE KINSELLA’S NOVEL «THE UNDOMESTIC GODDESS»)

Abstract. This article discusses ethnographic realia as a part of lexis with no direct equivalents in other languages (mostly related to food), which are the most striking reflector of the linguocultural singularity of the people. This study was conducted on the basis of the contemporary British writer Sophie Kinsella’s novel «The Undomestic Goddess», whose purpose was to determine how exactly the target language (Russian) reflects the national-cultural identity of the culture-specific vocabulary of the source language (English).
