Abstract.
The article aims to study the general conceptions of the “naive linguists” on the essence of the phenomenon of question in the English language and culture and its value characteristics. On the basis of the semantic and syntactic analysis of the “naive” discourse fragments the author reveals the peculiarities of functioning of the meta-linguistic name of a question and identifies the cognitive features assigned to a question by the English meta-linguistic consciousness.
