Abstract. The article deals with the influence of geopolitical, meta-translation, erratological and other extra-linguistic factors on the availability of knowledge in general and on the availability of knowledge about the Soviet school of translation studies, its theory and practice for modern foreign scientists in particular. Special attention the author draws to the “time capsule” in which the Soviet translation studies of the 1950s turned out to be under the influence of geopolitical factors of the Stalinist era.
