Abstract.
The article is devoted to the search for the identity by the Americans of Puerto-Rican origin in Judith Ortiz Cofer’s works. The attempt to analyze the impact of space in the process of acculturation is made. By the example of the fate of specific characters the conflict between two cultures is shown. The author emphasizes the impossibility of full integration of young people from Puerto-Rican families into the Anglo-American culture. The interrelation of space and imagination conditioning the relativity of a physical space is explicated.
