Abstract.
The article is devoted to the analysis of the problems of one of the most famous V. Nabokov’s short stories, where the writer touches the topics of destructive influence of the aggressive bourgeois environment and the opposition to it on the part of a lonely sensitive person of identity, the spiritual entropy and the metaphysical murder. Significant attention is paid to the peculiarities of Nabokov’s necropoetics, ontology and axiology, and the mythological aspect.
