Abstract.
The article by the material of the Arkhangelsk dialects comprehensively examines one of the main folk holidays - Saint Elijah’s Day: from the viewpoint of semantics and structure the author analyzes the versions of its name, describes the related festal events, provides the ethnographic information on the holiday (signs, customs, rituals, prescriptions) which allows presenting Saint Elijah’s Day in full detail and identifying its place in the annual cycle of holidays.
