Abstract.
The article is devoted to studying the specifics of professional activity, in particular, the work of the English sport commentators. As in any special language, in the sport commentators’ language the vocabulary contains two strata of lexical units: terms and professionalisms which are differentiated according to the included axiological component. The author provides examples of the English professionalisms from the sphere of football with a view to analyze them from the viewpoint of semantics and stylistics.
