Abstract.
The article is based on the idea that the theory of journalism has to substantiate and study the principles of human communication in verbal and written speech. Basing on the analysis of views on the essence of the theory of journalism the area of contradictions that distort the results of its research by scientific methods is determined. The author shows the search direction of the subject matter of the theory of journalism in the philological study of the phenomenon of communication, which aim is to substantiate the feasibility of human communication representation as a phenomenon of communication philology.
