Abstract.
Until present the subject repertoire of the cycle about the Nart Shauei in Adyghe folklore hasn’t been an object of a special study. Taking into consideration this fact, the author of the article, basing on vast material, selected in the course of the preparation of the multi-volume edition of the anthological collection “The Narts. The Adyghe Sagas” for publication, focuses on the identification and examination of the major themes and plot-forming motives of the mentioned cycle. The paper also determines the nature of interaction between archaic motives and the motives of more recent origin.
