Abstract.
The article analyzes the peculiarities of the language of resistance, realized in the English-language penitentiary discourse by means of applying the scheme of the analysis of pragmatic context, developed by T. A. Van Dijk. The comparison of the revealed peculiarities of the language of power and the language of resistance in the conditions of the examined discourse is conducted. The conclusions about the similarities and differences of these two social variants of language are made.
