Abstract. The article gives the theoretical illustration of correlation problem of categories of epistemic modality and evidentiality. The focus of the study is in the description of narrow, wide and combined approaches to the examination of interconnection of these categories. The analysis of linguistic literature reveals that the type of information source is a pragmatic factor, having an influence on the degree of certainty of a speaker in the validity of a statement. Consequently, the categories of epistemic modality and evidentiality correlate with each other.
