Abstract.
The article examines proper name as a linguo-social artefact. This view of the problem gives opportunity for comprehension of onyms (toponyms, anthroponyms, ergonyms and markings) as linguoculturemes. Onyms reflect dynamic changes in material culture, everyday life, social relations. Originated marking designations closely connected with fashion and prestige start to embody new opportunities for a person. Foreign-language marking names in the Russian language get clear pragmatic characteristics.
