RETURN TO THE PAST: NEW PLAY BY MARTIN MCDONAGH “HANGMEN”

Abstract.
The article is devoted to analyzing the new play “Hangmen” by Martin McDonagh, one of the major representatives of modern ”new drama”. The paper concludes that, though the action of the play for the first time takes place in England and is partially based on actual events, the majority of themes and problems raised by the author were touched upon earlier in his previous works. In particular, the following ones: the problem of mass culture’s and media’s influence, national and racial problem, the theme of tragedy caused by the neglect of professional duties.
