AXIOLOGICAL MODALITY IN THE PHILOSOPHICAL NOVEL BY ANTOINE DE SAINT-EXUPÉRY “THE LITTLE PRINCE”

Abstract.
The article examines axiological (value) modality and the ways to express it in the X chapter of the philosophical novel by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry “The Little Prince”. Axiological approach is considered from the viewpoint of main character’s attitude to a rather contradictory personage - the King. Axiological modality is identified considering the portrait, moral qualities, behavioural peculiarities and statements of the King. The paper concludes on the simplicity, laconism and subjectivism of modality typical for Saint-Exupéry’s individual style.
