Abstract. The article examines the role of adverbs of incompleteness of an action / feature as evaluative tools. In this connection the paper analyzes the position of these units on rating scale considering the modality of the mentioned adverbs. Taking into account multi-aspectual semantic and evaluative nature of the adverbs of incompleteness of an action / feature and the importance of evaluative component in the process of cognition the authors consider the mentioned adverbs as linguistic de-intensifiers occupying the intermediate position on rating scale.
