G. MARCEL’S IDEAS IN T. WILDER'S NOVEL “THE WOMAN OF ANDROS”

Abstract.
The article is devoted to the novel creativity of the American writer of the XX century T. Wilder. The comparative analysis of the ideas of the novel “The Woman of Andros” and the ideas of the French existentialist G. Marcel is carried out. This approach enables to take a fresh look at the problems of the novel and the writer’s creative evolution. Without denying the obvious influence of S. Kierkegaard’s philosophy on T. Wilder’s prose, the author of the article comes to the conclusion that in the existential relation the writer comes close to the ideas developed by the French philosopher Marcel.
