ANALYSIS OF THE KEY TERM OF VOLUNTEER MOVEMENT IN THE AMERICAN ENGLISH

Abstract.
The article examines English functioning in volunteers’ language. The study is devoted to analyzing the term “volunteer” in the different resources of the American English in diachronic aspect. The author shows that initially the term “volunteer” was used basically in the military sphere and only in the course of time it acquired its modern meaning. Special attention is paid to a certain period when the mentioned word was used in both meanings since the meaning replacement process occurred gradually.
