PERCEPTION OF LAW IN THE RUSSIAN AND ENGLISH CULTURES (BY THE MATERIAL OF THE PROVERBS WITH THE COMPONENT “LAW”)

Abstract.
Analyzing linguistic sign semantics the article examines Russian and English perception of laws as universal obligatory rules established by the state. The special attention is paid to studying folk didactic aphorisms - proverbs with the lexeme “law”. The author identifies the motives for negative perception of law in both cultures which stimulated the origin of proverbs of certain thematic content: the fear of law, the feeling of injustice, the feeling of helplessness, assurance of inequality before the law of the citizens of different financial status, distrust and disrespect of law representatives, high legal costs, etc.
