Abstract.
The article analyzes the collection of essays by Washington Irving “Tales of the Alhambra” from the ethnographic viewpoint. Special attention is paid to the description of Spanish people’s everyday life and morals. To create the image of Spanish nation the author shares his observations and personal impressions. The paper shows that the writer reproduces in detail the local colour but at the same time expresses his personal, strongly subjective view on the specificity of Spanish national character.
