Abstract. In the article the reception of Gogol’s works by Rozanov in different periods, and his changing attitude toward Gogol as a person and an artist are analyzed. Rozanov’s final attitude towards Gogol expressed by him in the last period of his life is formulated. This judgment by Rozanov is considered as final on this issue. The author substantiates the thesis that Rozanov’s contradiction in his views on Gogol’s creative work is connected, first of all, with his personal religious and philosophical ideas and opinion about literature.
