Abstract.
The article compares the meanings of a number of words in the literary German and the Austrian national variants of the German language. The aim is to examine the lexical-semantic features of the Austrian variant of the German language on the basis of the examples used, the article emphasizes the need to study the Viennese dialect as the basis of the national character of the Austrian variant of the German language, to reveal the lexical originality in its various uses and to analyze the similarities and differences from the literary German language.
