Abstract. The organization of the referential plane of the folklore text is explained by its genre specificity in many ways. In mythological stories, the peculiarities of the characters actualization in the text are conditioned by the presence of two diametrically opposite poles of the objective and mythological realities. The high degree of definiteness of the human character contrasts with the extremely low degree of the reference of supernatural forces. The contrasting representation of the characters in the mythological story in the text is conditioned by the pragmatics of the genre and expresses the narrator’s desire to achieve the effect of authenticity of the description of the meeting with the representatives of the mythical reality.
