THE PATTERN OF USE OF EPISTOLARY MATERIAL IN N. V. GOGOL’S “SELECTED PASSAGES FROM CORRESPONDENCE WITH THE FRIENDS”

Abstract.
The article deals with the problem of N. V. Gogol’s use of the real letters in the process of working on the book “Selected Passages from Correspondence with the Friends” (1847). On the basis of the comparative analysis of the fragments of the writer’s real letters with the fragments of the chapters of the book, Gogol’s work with documentary materials is described. The author aims to trace the process of transformation of the original letter into the chapter of the final work, denoting the essence of Gogol’s method of working with documentary sources.
