Abstract. The article examines the geographical names of Southern Yakutia representing the ancient pagan beliefs of the Evenkis. Toponymy preserved the names associated with shamanism, totemism, and animism. The work is carried out on a fairly extensive (more than 800 items of storage) reliable field material, largely for the first time introduced in scientific use. The groups of toponyms considered are the evidence of the Evenkis’ spiritual life and recreate the cultural worldview. In some cases the description of toponyms is accompanied by legends explaining the origin of the names of different geographical objects.
