THE PECULIARITIES OF USING METAPHORS IN THE AMERICAN PUBLICISTIC DISCOURSE

Abstract.
The article is devoted to the analysis of the sense-formative potential of the author’s metaphor in the modern publicistic discourse by the example of the articles from the American newspaper “The Independent”. The authors consider metaphor as an effective means of textual and semantic construction, performing an associative-evaluative function in the publicistic discourse. The analyzed data made it possible to conclude that in the publicistic discourse metaphor has an intentional predetermination, influencing the opinion and behaviour of the addressee.
