EMOTICON FUNCTIONING IN INTERNET CORRESPONDENCE IN THE CHECHEN LANGUAGE

Abstract.
The article is devoted to studying emoticon functioning in Internet communication in the Chechen language. The basic peculiarities and characteristics of emoticon are under analysis. The author considers the problem of emoticon origin and mechanisms of their popularization, examines the most frequent Chechen emoticons with a view to identify their common and differentiating features and discover emoticon functions in Internet correspondence in the Chechen language. Finally the author draws conclusions, and emphasizes the uniqueness of emoticons as semiotic system.
