Abstract.
The article is devoted to the peculiarities of word-building system of the French urban argot at the end of the ХХ century. During the analysis of empirical material, the main trends of derivation in this segment of the language are revealed. The relationship of socio-cultural changes in the life of the French metropolitan cities with the choice of ways and sources of replenishing the argot vocabulary is noted. The author also examines the features of the derivation processes of the end of the XX century in comparison with the earlier periods of functioning of the French urban argot.
