Abstract.
The article represents the analysis of studying the real events, facts, documents, which formed the basis of the novel “The Book of Daniel” by E. L. Doctorow. The prototypes of real historical people, their actions and emotional states are compared in the article with the images in the novel. The author of the novel does not set a goal to convey the details of the events of the Cold War period credibly, in particular the Rosenbergs’ case of atomic espionage, however this article represents the opposite: many details of the Isaacsons’ case had a historical basis in the Rosenbergs’ case. The author’s goal is to reveal the level of reliability of the events described in the novel by studying the details and to analyze the degree of using the artistic fiction by the author of the novel. In connection with this, the paper examines the historical basis of the events described, analyzes the novel “The Book of Daniel”, highlights the details of the novel, characterizing the events of interest, correlates the events with historical data and analyzes them in relation to the nature of reliability.
