Abstract. The article examines a grant application genre. The paper provides a brief description of a genre on the basis of T. V. Shmeleva’s questionnaire and shows how the double communicative genre purpose determines the duality of author’s image and the specificity of the essential in this case time factor. The researchers propose and justify the thesis that genre and stylistic originality of the mentioned genre is conditioned by the combination of the traditional features of scientific style and certain peculiar features. The paper substantiates the status of grant application genre norms as being recently formed and identifies the basic problems arising before the researcher trying to adopt genre norms.
